History

ACTS began in September 1998 as the Community Conferencing Association of Edmonton and changed its name in 2003 to Alberta Conflict Transformation Society.

Conferencing had its conceptual origins in New Zealand with the Maori people and has gained favour in numerous communities around the world as an innovative means of increasing victim satisfaction and offender accountability [Transformative Justice]. It is a program that endeavors to change the manner in which the community currently deals with crime and conflict. To return to a model of justice which brings together all parties, including the community to the conflict, in order to identify the root cause and to determine an effective solution.
